In Yevgeny Shvarts’ memories, into plot about Leningrad artists of the twenties, there are words: "Artists were even more arrogant; it is difficult at times had to guess, someone who illustrates. ... From disdain for literary into the painting was just a step up to a certain contempt for literature in general ". And this snobbery, vigorously refuses to recognize the dignity in paintings, stained themselves by including into them some stories, history, plot remained till now. From time to time at the exhibitions can be heard scornful and condemning: "But it's literature!"

The desire to dissect, to classify art, cutting off as unworthy that do not fit into the conventional framework has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage - the ability, as a result of certain mental work, to recognize and to read subtle pictorial messages on the level of symbolic images. The disadvantage of such a categorical approach is more sparse emotional palette of images perception, - that is sin of any bias.

In its June exhibition gallery S.P.A.S. makes an attempt to break through rigid framework of perception, offering the public a lot of pictures with a definite plot, sometimes even on the well-known one from classical literature, or simply everyday scenes - but they are all in their painting qualities - in color, the light, the interpretation of form - deserve gaze of the amateur art. Carpe diem, - said Horace - seize the day; catch a moment of joy.
